Milestone Jewellery - What Would You Choose?

When someone mentions ‘Milestone Jewellery’ people will often think about wedding anniversaries and birthdays, but that’s not to say that’s where the list ends! Milestone jewellery can be a gift from someone or to yourself and for several different reasons. It could be the birth of a child, a graduation, the promotion you’d be working towards for several years, a first job, reaching a significant life goal or it could be a commemorative piece to mark the passing of someone special. Whatever, the reason, we explore some of the popular items of jewellery and routes that people pick for significant or milestone moments.

Birthdays – What’s your Number?

18th, 21st, 40th, 50th…the list goes on, but these are just some of the ages that people tend to mark with a significant piece of jewellery. For women, the classics remain a strong choice, like diamond stud earrings. These will stand the test of time and never fade in and out of fashion. But other pieces of jewellery surrounding birthstones are another good choice that allow some variation on a theme. Other ideas involving a stylised letter, or a solitaire gemstone pendant are also popular and can be made to suit a style or taste – you’re not confined by what you see on the high street! Often, family jewellery is used and remodelled as it’s significant but maybe outdated in its current format. This allows the birthday jewellery to become even more sentimental.

Family Moments

Significant moments in family life, such as the birth of children or big wedding anniversaries, are often associated with jewellery too. Traditionally, eternity rings are given after the birth of a child (or when you have finished having children) or after an important wedding anniversary, like 10 years. Eternity rings can take many forms and be made in many ways. Some women like to wear them on their left hand with their wedding and engagement rings and others like to wear them on the right hand. Design is crucial in deciding this and will depend on existing jewellery, but a diamond band is most associated with eternity rings. Some like to add in different gemstones representing the months that children are born, or the month of marriage. These can make a striking contrast to a white diamond! But you don’t need to stick in the traditional mould and there are so many options of what you can choose, from both style, gem shape and type.

Congrats to You!

An emerging market but one that is arguably very important is self-gifting. Recognising and marking your own successes are a great way to feel inspired and confident. A phrase that has been coined around this is ‘successaries’: celebrating your success through an accessory! For men, this could be a new watch, or cufflinks and for women, well the world is your oyster! However, popular choices are pendants because they are close to the heart, and rings because they are visible when typing or writing. We’ve are being asked for these type of statement pieces more and more, especially as woman are feeling empowered to celebrate themselves and want to spend some of their hard earnt money on remembering and celebrating those triumphs. Whatever success looks like to you in jewellery form, we’d love to help bring your vision to life. Sophie is passionate about enabling women, regardless of budget, to celebrate themselves, and as a female founder, she knows how important it is to celebrate the wins!

Seminal Moments

Graduations, first job, hitting a target weight etc are some other key moments in life that people want to celebrate and remember. A tangible manifestation of these achievements can be a great way to keep you on track, make you remember how hard you’d worked or how fortunate you are. In these instances, anything goes! It’s very personal. Earrings and cufflinks are good choices for graduations and first jobs, whilst a bracelet or ring can be a great way to always see the emblem of your seminal moment and keep you focused.

Commemorative Pieces

Sophie knows only too well what a commemorative piece of jewellery can mean. Along with her sister, they designed a pendant/brooch for their mother to remember their late father and it’s a piece that their mother holds very dear indeed. Again, the form of a commemorative piece of jewellery is completely down to the individual, and could use heirloom pieces, or birth/anniversary stones as their significant factor. It’s whatever suits you and what it means to you.
