After many years working in the advertising and marketing industry, Sophie took the leap to follow a passion and start her own business as a private jeweller.
Back in 2011, Sophie took a taster course in gemmology and this started the fascination with gems and jewellery. In 2012, Sophie and her sister designed and commissioned a pendant as a gift for their mother to commemorate their father. This moment of what jewellery can mean to a person and what it can represent, a physical manifestation of an intangible emotion, ignited a spark. This, coupled with Sophie’s love of gemstones, made her decide to become a private jeweller.
Initially alongside her day job in marketing, Sophie would deliver bespoke pieces for friends and family, and continued to study. She took the Gem-A Gem Level 2 Gem Basics course in 2016 and went on to complete her GIA Applied Jewellery Professional qualification in 2023.
“I used to love rifling through my Mother's
jewellery box when I was a little girl –
it's where my love of sparkly things started!”
In 2023, Sophie Flanagan Fine Jewellery was born, and Sophie could concentrate full time on delighting clients with beautiful jewellery tailored to their needs.
The curiosity and passion of all things gems and jewellery doesn’t stop and Sophie is continuing her study to gain her GIA Graduate Gemology Diploma.
Sophie is a member of the London Diamond Bourse in Hatton Garden and spends her time there, meeting clients, sourcing gems and visiting the workshop to oversee progress on commissions.
Sophie believes in delivering finely crafted, emotionally driven jewellery for clients, from engagement rings, pendants and earrings to bracelets. She loves producing beautiful jewellery that will become heirloom pieces and go on to tell their story for years to come as they pass through generations.
“Art Deco is one of my favourite periods of Jewellery - I love the Symmetry of design. It has Inspired several of my own personal commissions!”
