Fashion and jewellery have long been seen as working hand in hand with each other. The difference between them is that fashion trends are much more fleeting, and jewellery trends have some longevity to them. At the end of last year, we looked at the trends that would be big in 2024 and funnily enough, some of these remain at large into 2025. There are also some new contenders on the block.
Let’s look at what will be big in 2025.
Layered necklaces were a big look this year and the trend doesn’t seem to be shifting. Mixing and matching lengths, metals, and chains – anything goes to create a unique look.
Pearls, big, bold and shapely, are still very much on for 2025. Mixing metals and other gemstones into the design will elevate the look. However, if you want to still style out the pearl necklace, it’ll fit neatly into the layering trend!
If silver is your thing, big, chunky earrings are here to stay. Paired with a slick ponytail, it’s a look that is gracing magazines extensively. Whether they be smooth, textured or organic, if they’re big, it doesn’t matter. This style also allows for a great day to night transition as they are wearable in both a professional and personal capacity.
Vibrant gemstones are set to be huge in 2025. Think bright refreshing hues and colours that haven’t yet had their time in the spotlight. If sapphires are your thing, the teal colour has seen a rise in popularity throughout 2024 with dealers declaring it’s all that people want now. If something a bit zingier is more your style, watermelon tourmaline, tanzanite, morganite, aquamarine and swiss blue topaz are all set to be gems of choice. Fresh, bright and versatile, these gemstones can be made every day friendly or nighttime fancy. Faceted octagons lay the groundwork for a versatile style.
Maybe it was the dramatisation of Rivals into bingeable TV, or maybe everything is cyclical, but the 80s are back. Think especially of the gold earrings that epitomise that era. Textured, circle earrings or ribbed wide drops in yellow gold are here to stay – for another season at least. This could be a great opportunity to raid your mother’s jewellery box and give some 80s earrings a 2025 make-over in a remodel. Wide, large bangles are also on point and perfect for the upcoming festive season.
Round brilliants have long held the crown as the most popular diamond shape, but in 2025 Rapaport is reporting an expected rise in the marquise shape. A step beyond the oval, this historical shape (a romantic notion from Louis XV) will start to appear in more engagement rings in the 22–38-year-old bracket. A cut that gives a large surface area, therefore the illusion of being of greater carat weight, is appealing whilst being a bit off radar and seemingly more individual. If it’s a point too far, ovals are gaining ground on their round counterparts and are often carat for carat cheaper.
The trends from 2024 are seamlessly transitioning into 2025, so lots of what was in is still applicable, albeit maybe with a slight twist. It also means that there is plenty of opportunity to remodel, design bespoke and to source ready to wear jewellery. So whatever takes your fancy for 2025, Sophie would love to help.
